“My only concern with what comes between two surfaces is that nothing comes between them. I want the connection to be raw and uninterrupted. Just this and that. In a thousand years the object will be all that is left and you will have to read its materials and construction to figure out what it is. I want things to be exactly what they are, no smoke, no mirrors. I think when things are put together in a matter-of-fact way something surreal tends to happen. There’s no need to force it.”
