Release Ai Weiwei

May 25, 2011

The acclaimed artist-activist Ai Weiwei was taken into custody on April 3rd 2011 during a widespread Chinese crackdown on artists, activists, lawyers, writers and bloggers that many say is the most severe since the reaction to the 1989 student demonstrations at Tiananmen Square.  Ai’s detention has triggered an international outcry, from art lovers, government officials and human rights advocates across the United States and Europe demanding his release.

“What can they do to me? Nothing more than to banish, kidnap or imprison me. Perhaps they could fabricate my disappearance into thin air, but they don’t have any creativity or imagination, and they lack both joy and the ability to fly.”
