Lesley Vance

September 15, 2011

Artist Lesley Vance manipulates wet paint with a palette knife, erasing and editing the forms of the rocks, shells and chunks of ceramic she paints, past the point of representation, giving an alternative existential identity to the organic matter.  Her sensuous oil-on-linen abstractions retain the intimacy and refinement of a traditional still life and renew ecstasy for the formal aspects of classic painting.
