Cyprien Gaillard | The Recovery of Discovery

In a colonial gesture Cyprien Gailland relocated 72,000 bottles of Turkish beer and re-arranged them into a pyramidal sculpture in Berlin, explicitly referencing the relocation of the Pergamon Altar from Turkeyto Berlinlate in the 19th Century.  An intoxicated mass of gallery visitors consumed Gailland‘s large-scale monument literally, drinking, climbing and (un)making the sculpture.  The beer induced amnesia undermining the basic purpose of a monument and the easy forgetfulness of displacing cultural artifacts.
